Think I may be able to swing the coin to buy a new guitar to compliment my Telecaster. Thinking about the new Sterling line. Is the AX20 worth the extra $100 for the quilt top? I bet the humbuckers are the same plus the Silo has a middle SC. I guess it's also 24 fret maple board versus 22 fret rosewood.

I prefer maple over rosewood. I do like the AX20 SuperSport look though.

I've never had a chance to hold a SBMM and play it, but there are many videos and links of reviews posted around here, and they all sound great.

Would love to try one though. But you could do an eBay search, if you're in the market for a Sub1. Sub1's are great!

This is completely subjective......and first I'll tell you some places to search....

I did a comparison several months ago comparing a silo 20, a Musicman Silo and my Sub 1.

I did play the silo 20 quite a bit and played the AX# (the Axis floyd version) along with a JP# (the SBMM JP). I felt the silo 20 was very good for the money, but not up to the sub for feel and balance. The regular silo blew em both away. I was unimpressed by the AX (I own an Axis and an ASS). I've played it again during the JP meet and greet and again was unimpressed. I really liked the JP#.

For me, it would be an easy choice of the silo over the ax in the sterling line.

OK, normally I do not get Trem equpped guitars. How is the musicman trem on the SUB? Can you set it for down-bend only? I do not like floating bridges.

Silo20 $399 new.

Sub 1 for $500 used.

Which is better?

the Sub was a USA made instrument made in the SLO factory. The quality is going to be better than an overseas made guitar. If your looking for USA level quality, then stick with the USA made guitar.

If your looking to get the Music Man vibe and designs for less than what you spend on a USA guitar the Sterling by Music Man line is for you.

The difference is only $100, If you can find a Sub for $500 I would jump on it. Its a USA made guitar and you know you can't go wrong with that.

I'm not trying to downplay the guitars we make, but if your yearning for beef, chicken won't do. You got to have a steak sometimes.
