Hi there, and sorry if this came up before. I used the Search function but am not wiser now.
I'd like to know what the Sterling Classic is all about. Is it a Sterling in a way a Sterling would have been build pre EB? Or is it really the way the first Sterling looked in 1993? I was assuming that the first Sterling had the 3-way-switch in the first place, no string-trough-body, etc.
Thanks for helping and regards.

IOW, "Classic" doesn't mean "Re-issue". No point
in re-issuing the original Sterling cuz it has never
been discontinued. BTW, if you happen upon one,
there IS a 3rd version of the Sterling [although in
historical order it's actually the 2nd version, while
the "Classic" is the 3rd]. If you ever stumble upon
an EBMM Sterling SUB Bass, do NOT let it's "Plain
Jane" finish put you off. Play it, THEN decide. You
just might save yourself $1000, to put toward yet
another MM bass, acoarst ;-)

Many thanks to both of you, that was pretty helpful.
Here in Germany (Bavaria I should say ;)) you find Sterlings, even though not as frequent as Stingrays. And even somethimes US Stingray SUBs. But I literally never ever saw an US Sterling SUB. Before checking out Jeniffer Young's gear list I did not even know there was a Sterling SUB.

BTW: Are those US Subs (SR and Sterling) active, too?

The original Stingray SUBs were active with a 2-band EQ. I owned one early on in my bass hoarding binge I've been on for the past few years.

the sterling sub has a 3 band eq, different than the regular sub with a 2 band.

USA SUB SRs were offered both active and passive,
prolly the first instance of passive SR sound ever
sold as a stock item. AFAIK USA SUB Sterlings are
always active.
