Sterling - who has more spank - maple or rosewood fretboard

I am playing a Guild Pilot with Rosewood board. It's tough to slap/pop.
I played Maple fretboard Sterling at GC and wow! Amazing slap/pop.
I suppose it's the pickup and the maple fretboard but what about the same guitar Sterling with rosewood board - still the same spank (slap/pop).

The sound may be slightly warmer on a rosewood board guitar, but I don't see how the fretboard material would affect ability to play slap. That is more affected by the string height, pickup location, neck width, etc.

Let's add ebony fretboard to this equation.
In My Experience, sound wise, ebony is similar to maple. It is a bit brighter sounding. ON the other hand, it feels way different. Ebony also, if not cared for properly, can crack during times of very low humidity. It is hard but also kind of brittle.

Maybe the Pilot is just too scrawny necked, regardless of
whatever wood species are involved. OTOH, it's a waaay
cool pencil-necked fangerstile speed neck.

The Pilot neck feels very similar to Sterling neck.
I will say it might be the sweet spot pickup placement of the MM versus the PJ on the pilot that achieves better slap/pop spank than any other guitar out there.

I mean any bass I pickup anywhere and only the MM gives me and at ease the spank of slap/pop.
All other basses a little less or you need to work at it to get it out.
The MM is just easy.

Slapping is what you do to guitar players that steal your bass lines. The harder the wood is the better they get the idea.
