Last night was Steve Lukather's birthday bash at the Roxy.

We flew in from Hawaii and headed straight there. Slide Away (Trevor Lukather, Luke's son) opened up for him. It was an awesome performance!

Steve's band set up was what he used for his tour. He had 6 Lukes as far as I could tell: Radiance Red with Black headstock, Dargie I, BFR, Sparkle Black, and Blue Dawn. He played them all at least once. He stuck with the Radiance Red and Dargie I most of the night though.

I was hoping to get Luke's signature on the two rear plates of my Dargie and Black Luke but no luck. Backstage was for VIP's only.

David Paich came out as well as Edward James Olmos (Commander Adama from Battlestar Galactica). It was a majorly awesome night. I just wish I had a chance to meet my hero in person. Seeing him perform live was good enough for me though.

For the first half of the set, I was right in front of the house speakers. Toward the end middle of the show it became a loud mush that was intollerable. Luke sounded way better throught the monitors on stage.

Complete photos from the event can be viewed here: Steve Lukather Concert Photos

Here are some highlights.

nice pictures, looks like you had a lot of fun.

you mean "Lt.Castillo" from "Miami Vice" :)
I just bought the Miami Vice box set - the series really kicks into gear after "Calderone's Revenge pt. 2", when Castillo is introduced. For all you teenagers and twenty-somethings
out there: Miami Vice rules - and Jan Hammers soundtrack really is great to jam along to. Miami Vice really ought to be mandatory viewing ón All educational levels.

Cheers

I wish that Luke could come here again to see him perform on stage again or a clinic would be great... sigh....

I had to say Commander Adama because he addressed himself as such and did the "So say we all" with the crowd when he declared Luke the most passionate, expressive guitar player ever.

It was a blast!

Nice!

I should have dragged myself to the Roxy... wish I heard about the gig sooner!

Was Steve's son playing the Lukes too? Looks like the Black Sparkle to me...

Yep. He was playing a black sparkle. I don't think his trem was set to float though. His rig was a Mesa Triple Recto, and that new Line6 multi effect pedal thingy. I forget what it's called.
