i read here that steve is using the new X series emgs, is this going to be a change on the Luke Guitar?
has anyone tried these?
im thinking of putting some chrome x series in my 20th Anni silo.

i found this on the EMG myspace..
“I tried these new X pickups and I really like them and have been using them on this tour on the guitar I am using as my main guitar. I am just plugging straight into a Marshall and a few stomp boxes on this run so the sound is very pure. Been getting many compliments on the sound from our FOH engineer and fans alike.”Steve Lukather

I have tried a Luke with EMG-X kit SLV-X 85-X powered with 18v

this new version of the Luke really smokes. You still have the EMG quietness and a very natural sound when people says that EMG sound is sterile

EMG-X sound is vivid I have tried one strait in a valve state Marshall sounded awesome with both Clean and Distorted sound (and it was a low end amp)

check out Lucious video on Youtube about providence effect

I'm wondering what they are like myself. I have a LUKE on order, but I dont think the X-series EMGs will be on this one yet. I'm sure EBMM would make some kind of an announcement by now? I am really curious though. See...this is the problem with new things coming out all the time...the "need" to try out new things NEVER ends. I dont mind, but my wallet is a different story hahaha.

First off these are not Steve Lukather X pickups...They are EMG X Pickups. THey are really over the line promoting these as something Luke likes especially when Luke has a signature line with them...It is sort fo a bait and switch to something else.

Steve is evaluating a set. If every company jumped the gun and posted press releases and off the cuff beta feedback from artists things would be really crazy. All of our artists are always exploring new stuff and when they are convinced that it is better then they switch.

Luke has not switched to the X. He probably has 75 of our guitars and only one with X pickups.

do these pups come stock at 18V? I always did the 18V mod on all my EMGs. I personally prefer the tonal openess of the 18V much better.

I agree EMG seems to be dominated by metalheads. But Steve is proof that you can get all kinds of great sounds from them from blues, funk, shred, whatever. It's all about the player.
