Steve Morse Clinic Brisbane

Hi all, Just returned from the Steve Morse clinic right here in Brisbane.

What an absolute gentleman Steve is. He gave us a great insight into his playing style as well as quite a bit of humour.

He also spent a lot of time talking about the Y2D and answering questions about it from the audience. Man I want one of thos babies now.

I asked him to autograph a pic for the Forum and I've put it in my photobucket account as well as a photo of him doing some autographs.

Colin & I passed on the best wishes to him from our fellow forumites. We asked about his wife for you Keith and she was standing right there with him so I guess she's fine now.

Those of you that know Colin & I from our time on the forum will know that for two men in their mid 30's we are still a couple of teenage boys.

With that in mind I dared Colin to ask Steve what was his inspiration for writing the riff for Smoke on the Water. (Steve spent some time during the clinic making fun of people that interview him and ask that same question)

Colin can never turn down an opportunity for a gag so he did it. Steve and his wife thought it was great he said that he loved people with a sense of humour - a true gentleman.

Well that's enough from us Colin's off to the concert and I'm off to practice.

Hope all forumites are doing fine, can't wait for the next star clinic.

Must've been fun for you guys to go to that.

Give me a choice between a DP show and a SM clinic and I'd go with the clinic everytime. Steve's so engaging with what he says and how he says it, not to mention some of the most inspirational "how-does-he-do-it" guitar playing found anywhere.

Good to know his wife is doing well.

Here's hoping he can string a few DD and SMB dates together sometime in the next year.

The Deep Purple concert night in Zagreb was the best night of my life. (December 6th, 2003) Then again, I'm 14, things change. I hope to catch some more of their shows.

I still can't believe I actually saw and heard him play. He is a living genius. When I think of the concert, I always think that it was just a dream, that something that great could never happen. But it actually did. I still can't believe... When the show was over, everybody went to their cars and went home, and 30 minutes later, in the middle of the city (waaaaaaaaay away from the venue) you could still hear the "Black Night" melody... it was almost more than a sound, like an atmosphere, something like a background... Amazing!

I still get flashbacks ...like, in the middle of the concert, I was just waiting to wake up, but I didn't Then I looked up and saw Steve Morse (this is an actual pic from the concert)



Then again, I'll never forgive myself for not knowing there is a guitar clinic going on before the show. Then again again, maybe it's better this way, finding out that there was after 2 years. I'd probably be too heartbroken to know that there is one, and I couldn't go. (how knows, maybe there would be a reason for me not to go)

But I have to forgive myself - I was 12 then, I didn't spend almost any time on the Internet, never been to the Steve Morse or Deep Purple website, didn't have any friends that are into this kind of stuff (guitar clinics, concerts, gutiars in general) so there was no way I could ever know. I almost didn't know who Steve Morse was (that's a joke )

Pick up Steve's words of wisdom OPEN EARS. Cheap on AMAZON.

His writing on being a musician will stay with you a very long time. It's among my 2 favorite music books. (the inner game of music is the other).

Get both. Trust me. It'll really impact your playing.

I can't figure out why Norm doesn't like SM?

I went to a Steve Morse band clinic last September. SMB was playing at Hell Blues Festival just a 30 minute drive from where I live. Hell is actually the name of the place the festival is held. (Hell means luck in Norwegian) and the entire band did a clinic togheter. They even played some tunes like Tumeni Notes and Mechanical fenzy. I've been playing guitar for about 10 years, and before I went to the clinic i was more or less stuck, with no real progress in my playing. Steve Morse gave me new inspiration, and I've been able to take my playing to a new level through improved technique, and better improvisation.

I saw Deep Purple live for the first time in January this year, the concert was incredible. I think they played for 2,5 hours. It was on a Sunday night, and 3 friends and I drove 6 hours each way just to see it, which was absolutley worth it. I have tickets for Deep Purple at Hell Music Festival ( they changed their name this year) June 23. Can't wait!
By the way, I'll be joining the EBMM family any day now. I just won an auction for an old Morse model on ebay!

He spoke highly of EB at the clinic and stayed until every autograph was signed, even though he had a concert to play in only a few hours.

My first guitar clinic was a Steve Morse clinic, back when he first swithced to EBMM guitars (I think it was 1985). I remember seeing that funky headstock for the first time and thinking it looked so strange! Now I can't help but reach for the 'g' string tuner on the top of the headstock...

Well aside from the topless dancers he always brings...

He basically sets aside 1 1/2 hours to answer any questions, plays several amazing tunes he's written over the years to backing tracks, signs autographs, poses for pictures, goes over rig set up, tells funny stories of the life, and inspires you to become a much better player through dedication, creativity, chops, and desire.

And if you don't have much of his recordings from the past 25-30 years, you'll probably find yourself wanting them.

'Cause going to the clinic made me go home and practice. It was the best damn guitar lesson I ever had in my life. Then it made me start buying EBMM guitars. (To many to be healthy really)
