Hi all,
does anybody knows what happened o Steve's #1? I guess I'm not the only one curious about that. From videos I can see that these days he is playing SM guitar with guessing roasted neck and black and white pick guard.

Thanks

Radim

That thing took so much abuse! I'm surprised it lasted this long. That guy plays really, really rough.

old blue is retired. the fingerboard has gotten too thin to re-fret without the neck getting too small feeling. my 3rd attempt at replacing it seems to be fairly successful this time. i have a pretty good pic of it. i have attempted to get it hosted and posted at flickr or whatever its called....

the neck is roasted and hot flamed.the pick guard is the same pattern as dave larue's main blue bass. the color is solid navajo blue. solid popular body.

Thank you Tommy. Just another question, why do you need 3rd attempt? Steve wasn't satisfied, does he need any special setting?

good question

thanks for the infos Tommy!
Were there any thoughts of replacing the fretboard on #1? Will Steve still use it for recordings?

I think the two previous attempts were a solid blue one with a 1-ply black pickguard and the one we were talking about in the Steve Morse Gear-thread with the roasted neck, right?

Is there a Y2D single coil on the bridge in this new guitar? Because of the Signature on it? Does it differ from the regular one?

Oh so many questions :D

the straight single coil is essentially the same. the slanted coil i had done w/ flat pole pieces to allow more picking clearance.
you can make 10 guitars all from the same cad cutting and same wood types and they will ALL sound slightly different. the neck pocket was deepened slightly to help the guitar feel like #1 . the worn away rosewood on #1 lessened the distance between the top of the frets and the top of the body.
a new fretboard may or may not happen. i'm voting no to avoid possibly changing the sound of #1.
this new #1 is a seriously sweet hot machine.

Just another one. When first batch of 50 SM models were produced. Did Steve chose the best from them? Of course the best sounding to his ears.
