Hello!

Hopefully soon I am hoping to buy another guitar for my collection. I was thinking of building something myself (purely for my own entertainment!) and all the Kiskae drawings I made all looked very much like the SMY2D! So with that in mind, I wondered if anyone can give me some comparisons to the Axi' that I know and love.

What is the neck like and sound of the pickups in comparison to the Axis? What is the fretwire like? What do they tend to go for used? Also does the middle single get in the way like it can do on a 3 pickup guitar (all my guitars have always been twin 'bucker)

I did get to play one very quickly at Dave B's Steve Morse event, though it was more a passing twiddle rather than a full guitar evaluation!

Any feedback much appreciated!

Tim.

Hey Tim-

It's a fantastic guitar. (I am obviously biased towards the Morse though.)

Neck wise, it's different but not a total departure. A little flatter, feels a little bigger, not not as big as a Silhouette or AL. Very very comfortable. Think it's the same size fret wire. (I have zero problems going from my Y2D to Axis Sport and back.)

Pickups- the bridge is killer. Great with gain, very middy. Probably suits an Axis user just fine. Cleans up very well, better than the Axis p'up. Neck is darker, as if you'd rolled off your tone control. That one takes a bit of getting used to. Bridge single is the secret weapon on this guitar. Combined with the bridge, it's very percussive sounding, just rings out.

I don't find the bridge single gets in the way of my picking. on the Morse sometimes the neck single might, but the Y2D doesn't have that. It's pretty much right next to the HB. Also it's set quite low so it's not really in the way.

Body wise you'll probably feel that it's much larger (which it is). But the flat top is much like the Axis, so you won't miss a contour. There is no body contour either.

So there you have it. It's a different animal, but it is a rock machine and a very versatile guitar. If I have to pick one guitar, it's a Morse or Y2D. But I am partial to the neck profile. If you bond with it you'll love it.
