Steve Morse Tailpiece

Hello

I have a question concerning the tailpiece of the Steve Morse guitars (hardtail). Indeed, the bridge is a kind of Tune-o-Matic, but the tailpiece is a MusicMan (a MusicMan® chrome plated, solid brass tail block, dixit the MusicMan site).

Does somebody knows why Steve chose this tailpiece ???

The Steve Morse is the only guitar I know that uses such a device. Besides, it seems that you cannot find this sort of tailpiece in the shops (I checked StewMac.com).
Personally, I am very happy with it It is simple and elegant.

So Steve Morse owners, what do you think ?

I think that I read somewhere that Steve's original hybrid Tele/Strat guitar had a tuneomatic bridge and a 12 string tailpiece, so maybe the Musicman tailpiece is their interpretation of that ?

Personally, I am not a specialist so I can't say exactly what kind of tailpiece it is.

i must say it is a great tailpiece, i love the look and it sure makes the guitar feel different, its incomparable to my other balls, it really makes a difference.

A very cool and stable bridge for sure. I dig it. (Don't have a morse though).

I like it a lot myself. I'm on my second Morse, and I'm not sure if it's the tailpiece or not, but no other (solid-body) guitar I've ever played has as much unplugged resonance as the Morse.

...curious how it will be when i get mine. never had a morse even in my hands.
balls (and TCMs) are guitars that can be purchased w/o testing and never fail. hopefully ;-)

the tuneomatic style bridge requires a top mounted tailpeice in order to achieve the proper string pressure on the saddles. a thru the body string setup would put way too much pressure on the saddles. too little pressure allows the string to rattle. so i imagine thats why dudley incorporated a fixed tailpiece. mabey he will chime in again someday ???????(hint hint...)
if i remember correctly...........steve wanted to retain the overall feel....... string spacing.......... & the midrange that comes w/ this tuneomtic style setup.
strings last longer due to the proper string pressure on the saddles. &....u can change broken strings VERY quickly on stage.

Yeah, I'd love to hear from Dudley, too.. but I'm happy to know he's busy dreaming up new toys for us. Can't wait to try that wah! I've cleared a space on my pedalboard for it already!
