I'm looking into getting the new Steve Morse Y2D model due to hit the stores this month. I've never been a tremelo user so I'm leaning towards getting the standard bridge instead of the Floyd Rose. Of course, I'll play it before purchasing but does anyone on this forum have any comments or opinions about which bridge would be better.

Thanks,
Ron

The Y2D's been out for a while man, probably at least a year. They are very sweet guitars and you won't be disappointed.

Where you at? Maybe a fellow forumite lives near you and has one.

I think it depends entirely on whether or not you're a trem user. I'm done with Floyds and prefer hardtails these days. I love the bridge on the Y2D. It's easy to adjust (easier than the standard Morse) and sounds great. But it's a hardtail, so you've got to figure out if that floats your boat.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea they've been out that long. None of the stores in the NY area have them in stock and they're even hard to find online.

Thanks again!

I prefer double locking trems, but ended up getting a fixed bridge Morse because my GC guy screwed up the order. I loved the guitar so much I kept it and it's now one of my most favorite to play.

I agree 100% with beej about how easy the TonePros bridge is to adjust. I do find it interesting that Morse chose to make the guitar a "top loader" instead of string through the body. Seems like it might have gotten more sustain from the later.

All in all, a great guitar! Haven't played the Floyd version, but I am sure it's just as great.

The Floyd Rose is a good solid tremolo, can be a pain to set up if your not used to trems, especially locking trems.
The problem i found with Floyd's is that if you try to set it up for up-bending without the body being routed, so the trem sits forward, they break strings very easy.
Like you said though, you never been a trem user so the hardtail may be better. Its a nice option to have though and you can get some nice effects with a trem, especially a locking trem cause they shouldnt go out of tune.

I'd like to try one too (and the original Morse), but I'd have to travel too far. I once asked at my local GC about it, they said (with an attitude) "That would be a special order, paid in full, in advance." I said (also with an attitude) NO SALE ! I find it kinda funny that they are an EBMM distributor, and all they have is a couple of Axis's.

I'm definitely not buying one without trying it first.

I know, try before you buy is really tough. My approach has been to buy used on eBay. If/when you want to flip it, you don't lose much money on the transaction.

Or, find a forumite that lives close. You never know who's in your neck of the woods and has one you can try out.

Forgot to mention, if you buy the Floyd Rose equipped Y2D and you dont like the bridge, you can always block it off. They dont eat strings as much if they are blocked off :D

Just to clarify, the Morse does not have a Floyd Rose. It has a licensed version which is much better
