Hi,

Not sure if this is my first post or not..but hi nonetheless! I've lurked this forum for a while as I am looking to upgrade my gear this year and have only heard and read positive things about EBMM's quality and tone (never played one). Anyway, I came across this Buy Music Man Steve Morse Y2D Guitar with Standard Bridge and Flamed Maple Top | Signature Model Electric Guitars | Musician's Friend today and am wondering why this color is $300 less than other colors in the same model? Any thoughts? Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the quick response :D. I'm strictly an at home player but would like to play out in the near future. I've been playing on and off for 30 years -- sold my 70's Strat years ago :)confused:) and have bought a few cheapies over the last few years. I basically play blues and classic rock, with your 80's metal thrown in occasionally. Also, like playing clean jazz tones from time to time as well. Basically, everything but current metal.

I dunno about the price... but a few weeks ago I bought a 5 string Sterling bass off them super cheap b/c they'd just made a pricing error... few days after i bought it the price was higher again

so if, according to your research, the price is right i'd say u should jump on it. The y2d is a damn nice guitar

i can't believe nobody has said really why yet !!!
it's because that top sucks .........
:D

I know you're kidding but that must be the reason ! Not that it sucks but that it's different. I am so tempted...

Oh, and thanks for the welcome all.

Since it's not a "scratch and dent" (which sometimes is just a guitar returned because the first purchaser didn't like it, not necessarily because it has scratches or dents) I suspect that this particular Y2D has just been sitting around MF's warehouse for a while so they are trying to sell it off.

Or maybe MF has decided that they don't want to stock Y2Ds in the Deep Purple burst any more, so they want to get that one off the website by selling it at a discounted price.

Yep, when you go to the page with the Purple Sunset fixed bridge it has a drop-down with all three finishes and the Deep Purple Burst is the higher price there. Be careful. Why don't you call 'em and ask 'em what the deal is?

I'd give you completely the opposite advice. If you are interested buy it. Don't call and ask if its a pricing error, cuz if it is an error your likely not going to land it at that price. This is a good deal. If it turns out that you dont like it you can return it to MF at your expense for shipping. I would also add that I am not entirely sure that the guitar in the photos is the exact guitar you will get. It will have those specs but MF does not nessecarily post images of the guitar you are buying. I also would point out that the ad does not say limited qty or last one... which implies that there may be more than one on hand

You're right Headstock, you can return it if you aren't satisfied. I've never bought a guitar online before but I guess there's little risk if return shipping is all you'll be out.

On the other hand, I don't think they made a $300 mistake. They've got some reason.

I have a feeling that they have their reasons also. I emailed MF to see what they say. It must have something to do with the flamed maple top -- the others don't reference it and the EB website doesn't mention it as an option either. I'll see what they say if they respond. I'm not positive I'll buy it but it seems like a good deal on the surface.

It may be that the expiration date is about to run out or whatever. I've bought a few things from them and it was always brand new and first quality. Let us know what they say. I'm just a wary old geezer. CAVEAT EMPTOR.

I *think* this is below MAP. If I am right about it being below MAP and without it being marked as a scratch and dent...

no response from MF. I'll let you know what they say if they ever respond! I did notice that Music123 had the same guitar marked as "clearance" for almost $2k?
