Sticking my neck out...

Hello all. I am new here. Thanks in advance for your help on this.

I have a "Luke", and love it. All but the neck. My fingers are too fat and clumbsey to be able to play that small radius neck. Can any of you suggest a neck to try?

If you need a chunkier neck, you should probably try a Silhouette or Silhouette special. The Special comes in HSS config like the luke, if you like that sound, although it would different as the Luke has those EMG pickups.

I also think it'd be great to try a 25th Anniversary guitar because you'd probably like it, and even though it has dual hums it has great versatile switching.

Where are you located. Us knuckleheads are all over the world and we tend to know where different models are in music shops to try. Always better to try one out first so you can be sure.

I suspect you are not talking about the radius but about the back contour, right?

I have a confession to make...I am like the girl that gets into a car that has something wrong with it, and says, "I don't know whats wrong with it. I just know something is wrong." I play the guitar, and it just feels akward. I like the neck that I played on an older (60's vintage) Les Paul Standard. That seemed pretty comfortable. With that said, all of the good suggestion that you all are making are surely things that I will be researching. Meanwhile, I played a Luke and a Pettrucci at the same time, and discovered that the slightly less of a handfull allowed me to get around a little better. It seems like the same, or close to the same width of fret board. Is there a comfortable middle ground between the Petrtucci and, say a Strat neck? (I also have a 40th ann. Strat and find that to be a little spread out).

Thanks again for your input. I apologize for my lack of jargon prowess. If you make a suggestion, please give me an idea of why you're making htat suggestion so that I can recognize the features that you're speaking of.

Please explain how the neck configuration can effect the result from the pick ups. I really like the pick ups and don't want their chararistics to change. I just want to make this a more comforatble and precise guitar to play.

Try an Albert, seriously. Not as small as the silo special and Luke, but not as wide as the JP.

The neck on the 25th is very comfortable.its a bit more rounded than the JP and the fretboard is very nice too.

I've got short, fat stubby fingers and the Silhouette works the best for me. The JP is nice but it's really wide, my Super Sport is pretty narrow

I would try a Silo or Silo Special if I were you, and then perhaps consider selling the Luke and getting one of those (or trading). Not all guitars are "perfect" for all people, and, I have to admit, the Luke's "V" shaped neck is a little cumbersome for me too; others swear by it.

You can install the exact same pickups the Luke has, to any guitar. There is a set (pickups, pickguard, electronics and all) from EMG (the EMG SL-20 set) you can get, and install in a Silhouette, for instance. I have done the same to my old 80's Kramer.

I would also consider a silo for a start, I think getting an AL to try out is a pretty tough call for Chelyabinsk . And, if You manage to do it, try the Morse, it could be just what You need neckwise.

It seems you're not looking for a different guitar but a new neck for your Luke...?Necks are hard to come by as EBMM doesn't sell them separately.
In addition the necks are not completely interchangeable.

Its true that I was hoping to only change the neck. But as you all are suggesting that that might be more difficult to do, I will try to find some of the suggested models and play them. Thanks everyone.
