They do look very good, just a tad rare. I've heard mixed opinions about graphite necks but I've yet to try one.

Buy it! No, wait - then I'll have to have one...

^^^ you two from the same wee town? is woodbridge a bass haven?,you 2 pals? or just coincidence?

agreed - they're really nice. a few posters on here own them.Langley Guitar centre recently had one up for sale on ebay UK,they do pop up from time to time

you can order the neck direct from Status for a tad under 350 quid, if you haven't seen them before on the Status website

Status Graphite. The finest hand-made graphite basses and guitars. Made in England.

(Go to the online shop and they're there)

I used to have one of these on a 2 band trans teal SR4,the letting go of which was and still is a sore one with me:( I may have to get another for my SR5 sometime soon.

Yeah woodbridge is pretty much the centre of the universe.

What kind of tonal qualities/feel does a graphite neck have exactly? I remember BP saying that nothing beats wood, when talking about the design of the bongo.

Actually, just to correct you Zak, Flea said:

"Where the f**k is ipswich? I'll tell you where ipswich is, ipswich is the centre of the f**king universe!"

Don't know if you were there but that was when the chilis played at ITFC. So technically, according to flea's logic, woodbridge is about 10km away from the centre of the universe. :D

harder sounding with very clear ringing notes and tone. maybe more difficult to hide behind at high volumes compared to a wood neck - ie seemed amplify any kind of poor technique on the part of the player (from experience:eek:) ,

it feels just the same as a laquered neck - and I found it very inspiring to play. I used to occassionally have 35-95's on my Cutlass wannabe SR4 and the action was insanely low and fast. the neck fitted and played beautiful on mine though it bumped up the weight of the bass a bit

I also owned a couple of Status graphite necked basses in the past and I didnt go a bundle on the profile of the necks, very square shouldered and flat at the back. the MM Status replacement necks have a much nicer profile than the ones I had on my Energy basses

cheers

Komp

edit : forgot to add that I wouldnt choose a graphite neck oer a wood one, especially a played in MM one but if you've got a few basses its definetely a flavour worth having in your set up (again imo)

Thanks for the info. I might have to check out the graphite necks.

Yeah of course I was there, right at the front, being crushed. Come to think of it, flea uses graphite necks...
