Been having a discussion today regarding the preamp on the 2EQ Stingray but one thing seems to be unsure. Are the bass and treble dials boost only or boost and cut? Some think boost, some think boost and cut and others think boost only for bass and boost and cut for treble.

Does anyone know for sure if its boost only or boost and cut?

John East, whom I suspect is a pretty reputable authority when it comes to bass electronics, has researched the 2 band preamp and says it's a boost (with slight cut at the beginning) on the bass and a boost/cut on the treble.
clearly the two knobs affect the mid range, even when turning only one in relation to the other (thus I assume it's a Baxandall circuit), so things are a little more complicated here than on other EQs or on board preamps.

that being said, I never understood the urge to understand if the 2 band pre is boost, cut, etc.
it does't have center detents and it clearly doesn't operate like standard active preamps. I believe it was meant to be a minimal, effective and useable tone shaping device and not a bass version of a studio EQ like many other on board active preamps seem to be - which I find less musical and needing much more tweaking to get useable tones out as opposed to the 2 band Stingray preamp.

Gav, you are a font of Knowledge :)

Till know I thought both the Bass and Treble were both Cut and Boost (without a centre indent). I'm going to have to have another listen to my Classic SR5.
