Stingray 5 and tuning ungodly low. Opinions and advice needed.

You didn't have to, Sir TK.

Hey, we both play SR5s with flats. How far apart can we really be on the bass family tree?

Well not far but I use the B to play in G E F and a couple other keys. Hardly ever use it for D. Guess we doesn't play the same songs ey?

Cept I know we both do some Yokem. Thats the good stuff no B string required unless you just feel ya gotta.

I play my SR5 with a Drop A tuning. I used the Power Slinkys to get me that extra fat strings. The tension is still ok and the sound is defined. If I play regular slinky's, which I prefer, the string is too loose. I wish I could get a hybrid set with the power slinky B and the regular slinky EADG's. That would make me happy, but I digress.
G would be too low. I feel like I am pusing the envelope at A. Good luck though. Just, please, don't drill a hole.

yes, again, don't drill a hole, guys that are on "A" lists for sessions and producing in towns that rhyme with "Ashville" don't know what they're doing to their instruments.... :p

:D :D :D

He doesnt play MM's but Ryan Martini strings his 5 string basses GCGCF. It can be done, and obvioulsy be usable. Your just going to need a mondo G string. :D

Good catch! I really dig his bass playing as well. The only thing I really like about Mudvayne is him. :)

He plays Warwick thumb basses. I believe he probably uses the 34" scale version but they just started offering the bolt-on versions in 35".

If he can do it, maybe I'm not too far off if find the right G string to use(yeah yeah I know).

Dropping the B to an A has been done i believe. But G...I dont think even Sloths can hear that low...

PS: in the 60's they just Played a four String but hired a real Piano Player, not like today, you have a key board player with a Piano Patch.

Jamerson Sound great on a four, sounded low enough for all those hits.

I know Ryan uses Warwicks, just the guys arond here don't care for that word to much. So I didn't use it. But If he can do it, so can you. I know for his four string basses he uses a 105 - 50 string set so maybe that will help you figure out what you need.
