Sorry if this has already been asked.

I was wondering if there were any plans for a Classic fretless Stingray? So many bass players in the 80's played them, notably Pino so I was wondering if Ernie Ball were considering adding a fretless to the classic range.

Anyone heard any rumours?

There's interest but nothing has been announced. Perhaps next year or the year after they might start offering fretless versions. Of course, you could always get a fretted on and have it de-toothed.

Interest yes, news no.

If you haven't already, contact your favorite reseller and ask them to ask EB... Or ask EB CS. It's not listed but it still might happen if you ask.

I'm not a maple fretless guy really but a Birdseye/flame maple neck with that tint coated and fretless could be all sorts of killer!

Cool, thanks for the info. A few years would suit me actually.

I was really hoping for a fretless classic when I bought a backup for my present fretless but gave up hope.

I ended up with another StingRay which, of course, is not bad. But I really wanted a classic. :(

I just bought my first fretless Ray and I have to say, its freakin amazing! A Classic version would really be something but my fretless GAS has been put to rest with my new baby!

I owned a fretless sub 5 once, might be the closest to a classic fretless as you are going to get.

I also wanted a Classic in an unlined fretless format (for that Pino look). I emailed the company who stated that there were no plans to issue a fretless version.

Aaaaaaagh!

Here's the reply I got (bear in mind though, that this was the company's mindset last July!)

"Kevin

Thanks for the interest in Music Man! We have no immediate plans to introduce the classic series as fretless, although it may happen in the future.

That would be stunning! :)

I owned a unique acoustic fretless doublebass, 150 years old custom made with maple board, can You guys imagine that?
Now it's broken and rotten, it was fixed twice!
Still in good memories, collecting dust in ex-band mate basement!

I just wanted to say that maple fretless boarded instruments have unique tonal character, almost like out of this world!
There's only one problem, even flatwound strings are making huge damage to the maple wood! :(

I'd love to see a pic of that bass man! I know it's a bit off topic...but that sounds awesome.
