Hello everyone!... I have read on a number of forums about Ernie Ball Music Man not offering a fretless option for their StingRay Classic Series... Now, being a bassist that is only hindered by frets, this is very disappointing, especially when Ernie Ball Music Man has so much reverence in the bass department... I want to get Ernie Ball Music Man's attention... It's ridiculous they offer both fretted and fretless options for the StingRay and the StingRay5, but not the StingRay Classic... So how many of you think Ernie Ball Music Man should start offering the fretless option on their StingRay Classic Series?

+1000! I own 2 fretless Rays but really wanted a classic. I waited for a while hoping it would happen but, for reasons beyond me, it never materialized.

That being said, I would sell one of my current basses and pick up a fretless classic in a heartbeat!

Supply and demand.... There are a few of us that would LOVE a classic Fretless.... And even a select few that would love a classic Fretless Sabre (ok, maybe just Oli and me)....

We however are in the minority. It still may happen eventually... But not yet. EBMM takes good care of us but their business is not making "custom" instruments (although sometimes it feels like it with the build quality and staggering number of options available).

For right now post here, contact CS, and maybe talk to your favorite EB premier reseller. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Frets mask the tone of the FB, so you hear a bigger dose
of strings-PUs-electronics. The main difference offered by
the Classic vs the 'normal' Ray is in the electronics. Once
you get that FL FB tone happening, I can't see need for a
Classic vs a 'normal' 2-band Ray ... plus I like the contour
body of the normal Ray [not that my SUB bothered me at
all for lack of contours ... ].

Acoarst the mutes would be welcome on ANY fretless and
I do love muting .... so I make my own, and they adjust
much quicker than those twirly screws on the MM mutes.

And finally, does the Classic offer a piezo option ? Show
me a Classic FL without piezo and a normal FL with piezo
and I hafta take the piezo. The Classic version of the Ray
costs extra, about the same as the cost of a piezo option.
Plus, you're paying extra for a 2-band ? I love having that
middle EQ band [on a 3-band] for tweaking my FL voicing.

+1 to Mike's Pino reference!

And yes, Matt, we're probably the only two going for an FL Sabre, though I'd most probably buy yours used ;-)

I think a fretless Classic will EVENTUALLY happen. To me it would only make sense and seems like a logical thing to do. But what do I know.

Mutes with fretless is awesome. I have a 92 Stingray with muted bridge that wears a fretless Status graphite neck. Holy crap that thing smokes!!
