I was listening to my Sirius radio, and they played a song called 'Tune 88' by Jeff Lorber. Whoever was playing bass on this album was definitely playing a SR - and playing it extremely well.

It's only available these days as an import, but if you can find one it's definitely worth it's weight in bass.

Danny Wilson's playing bass on this album. Anyone familiar with him at all?

Actually, they bought something like a 3% share in the company, and it was a joint investment, so the statement isn't entirely true. I'm sure Sirius has corporate investors as well. Personally, I can't stand local radio but I love XM. Here's the press release......

Now back to our scheduled thread.... :D

No I don't know. I know it's a recent trend to hate clear channel, but no one has given me any SOLID reasons for the average person to do so. What they are doing is not illegal(sort of like Wal-Mart) and most radio has sucked for much longer than they've been in "power". XM/Sirius both look pretty cool. When I do listen to the radio it's usually public radio, as we have a few great stations up here in good 'ol Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Clear Channel has done at least one thing in Dallas that puts them on my bad list. They killed the only Modern Rock station in a top 5 media market, and changed it to some kind of oldies or something. The Eagle was a well established, still profitable station, and one monday, they fired all the DJ's and then switched formats to something where they cold pipe in a feed from prerecorded DJ's and a set playlist. No doubt this station probably makes more money than the Eagle did, but that is the difference between a small organization and a big one.

As far as rock goes, Dallas has two Classic Rock stations and one Alternative. The alternative station has tried to pick up some of the playlist of the Eagle, but is now kinda going through an Identity crisis, its hard to play Aerosmith next too Good Charlotte. One of the classic rock station has tried to rock a little harder now, but it still is off.

Clear channel pulls this stuff all over the country, they go in and fire all the local DJs then pipe in a feed from somewhere else. Yes, nothing illegal is happening, but they are killing any creativity in radio.

Comparing Clear Channel to Walmart was very accurate.

Radio is dead because it killed itself (public radio being the exception) and Clear Channel gave it a loaded gun.

Before this I'd never heard of Clear Channel. Regardless, I enjoy my Sirius sat radio. It's ironic, because I've always hated and avoided radio before I got Sirius.
