So I was going to get myself a SUB off a friend and i want to add a series/parallel switch to it (e.g. Sterling 3-way/Jazz bass S1 switching). But i was wondering if the pickup in it has 4 connections at the end, or does it just have both coils combined which would mean wiring for s/p switching would be impossible.

Also I've heard that the SUB and stingray pickups are the same so this should apply to stingrays as well right?

thanks!

The Seymour Dunc MM pickup that I have in my 'Ray has 4 leads so you can wire it any way you'd like. Its voiced very similar to a factory EB pickup.

If the coils in your pickup aren't glued, you can mod it to obtain 4 wires.
Not so difficult but don't try this unless you know what you're doing.

Here you can hear my Stingray, with a DPDT on/on/on switch:

or just get a great Nordstrand replacement and keep the original pickup in tact.

So is it easier to do the mod to a SUB pickup,or buy the Nordstrand pickup if you want that Stingray sound. Ithought that the SUB pickup was close to the Stingray,is how they are wired make a difference.

The SUB has the same pickup as the stingray so idk if it would be easier or harder, and i think theyd be wired the same.

Oh yes its definitely a great sounding bass - which is all the more reason to add those tonal varieties, but i can understand why you wouldn't want to pull it apart and re-wire it.
