Stingray neck replacement

I've decided to go back to a fretted neck on my 92 Stingray.
Are aftermarket necks available or should I just sent the bass to the factory for neck replacement?
Was going to post in "wanted to buy" but was unable to for some reason, maybe cause I don't post here much.
Couldn't find anything in search either.

I am sure there are after market necks out there. However, not sure if you can buy one from EBMM. I think you have to turn in the one you have and pay for the new one. I am 100% sure. Mine was easily replaced on one of my JP's, but, the neck was snapped in half. Maybe send CS an e-mail and ask.

No, sorry, I wasn't very clear on that.
It was always fretless, just a figure of speech.

Had surgery last week and I think there's still a lot of drugs in the system, not thinking clearly at times.

If the FB is in nice shape, truss rod working, etc, then
you can just swap with an FL addict like me, who has
perfect fretted SR neck available for exchange. Mine is
complete with hardware, but I'd hafta strip and retain
that if your FL neck lacks hardware. Lemme know.

I don't have daily online access, so my replies are very
seldom rapid, but after PMing we can "do phone".

BTW, EBMM has the original specs on file for every ax,
and replacement/exchange is always for original spec.

PS: Had surgery last week myself, but I seldom think
clearly anywho ... so I'm in a familiar head space :-/

Is the bass really so special that you can't sell it and get a fretted one? If you buy a new neck what you gonna do with the old neck? It doesn't fit generic basses so there's no market.

I imagine that a good refretting place won't charge you much more for placing fret slots and cutting a new nut. I'd at least get a quote.

Solution: He swaps for my fretted neck ... less shipping cost [neck-only] and
no need to find a buyer for a complete, somewhat costly and larger item [as
with selling a complete bass]

You can see by my sig that I'm essentially an FL player. With the swap, two
'orphan' necks find their new welcoming homes !

Is his Ray really so special ? Well, it's a '92. I have a '93 FL [listed as "mixed
breed" in my sig] and it has endearing details, like bridge mutes, the chrome
battery chamber cover, and really cool wood grain ... or mebbe his '92 is all
wondrously mojoed ? You do raise a good point with that question.

If the OP wants to keep his body (he) he could also buy any random SR from ebay, swap the necks and sell off a new fretless.

I would have some concern about reselling since the new one is now not an identifiable MM produced piece anymore but there's nothing hidden, being fretless is kind of obvious

Ben Dare Don Datt ... and never doubted the ethics of it.
It's all used gear involved. I think if you sent EBMM an
ax to repair a neck problem, they wouldn't force you to
retreat from your "improper" neck style to the original.

The hardship to those of us who want to swap out to an
opposite style [or even to swap between rosewood and
maple] is that EBMM is NOT gonna play along with that.

EBMM's policy is perficklee rational, and not unique in
this biz. Thaz how I wound up doing exactly what you
suggested ... buy - swap - resell. Not easy, but works.
