This is the second stingray I've purchased new (first one stolen - dammit) and I'm having some issues with the neck. First, the finish isn't quite perfect. Almost as if they missed the final sanding. So the question here is should I sand it myself (as a weekend woodworker I'm fairly competent) or should I return it? The other issue is some fret noise. Typically with open notes. Is this a neck adjustment issue, or again, should I return this for another instrument?

My first stingray was perfect in so many ways I wonder if I'm being too picky. At the same time, these are such fine instruments I know I won't be satisfied until it is perfect, too.

Thanks for the advice.....another T-bone

What year was your ex-Stingray? What year is your current Stingray?

I ask because the neck finish did change some time back. If you had an older poly finished neck, the current oil-and-wax treatment may seem unfinished to you, although it really isn't.

Fret noise can generally be corrected by a good setup.

Let me know what you have there.

Jack,

Thanks for the quick response. My old stingray wasn't all that old. Probably a 2000 or 2001. So the necks are similar - that wonderful smooth oil and wax finish. My newest bass just feels like they forgot one last step in the finish process. Have you ever heard of this from an EB product?

Thanks again....Tim
