Stingray or Sterling fretless(4 strings)

Thanks for your help but I would like to know why to choose a Stingray or a Sterling.
And pickup configuration...

What fretted basses do you play? I usually like to play a fretless with the same size neck or smaller than the fretted bass that I usually play. This is b/c your hand will tend to contract when you play and if you're not used to stretching your fingers to reach it'll be more difficult to play in tune. Jaco was known to practice on a fretted P bass but his fretless was a J.

If you usually play a fretted Sterling then I'd suggest another Sterling. If you usually play a fretted SR then either the SR or Sterling would be good.

As for tonal options, well . . . that's very subjective and what you like hear may be different than what I like to hear.

I don´t play any Musicman(for now).My favourite 4 strings bass is
a Sadowsky vintage J(fretted).But I also play with fretless 6 strings
Zon.Now I want 4 strings fretless.

How's your intonation on the 6 string? If you're used to stretching while playing a fretless, then it's just down to which tone you want.

My intonation is very fine.I´m always recording with this fretless and play live too.
Actualy my main basses are the Sadowsky and the Zon.
My problem with the sterling is that I can´t find any one to try so I don´t know
the differences between the two(regarding the tone and the feel of the neck).

If you put your location in your profile, you might be able to find someone in your area that has one for you to try. If there is a GC near you, they usually carry them (at least fretted ones). I don't think you'd have a problem with either. The SR neck is only 1/8" wider than the Sterling but it's a little beefier (front to back).

Love my Sterlings

I have 2 Sterlings - a fretted HH and a fretless H Piezo. I love 'em both, and considering I have another 12 basses to choose from, I love my fretless the best. The Sterling has a finer neck than the Stingray, and if you want a massive tonal range, then go for the fretless with the piezo saddle pickups.
I use it a lot to record (Usually through an Ampeg SVT or MarkBass) and find that the ability to mix the piezo and magnetic sound is just awesome. Beautiful necks, great electronics, superb finishes and incredible tone. What more do ya want!!

I have a fretless 2 band stingray. Great, unique sounding instrument. I play a fretted sterling. The two are quite different sounding. The ray having a little less punch (my sterling is especially punchy, relatively heavy piece of ash for the body). The ray has a more round bottom end, sounds great for dub. The 2 band makes for a big difference too; the bass and treble responses are much different.

Stingray or Sterling fretless(NEW)...

Today I played a Sterling for the first time.I´m in love!...great bass!!!
The problem is that in my country a lefthanded Sterling is so
expensive:1.890 EUR!!! or 2.96136 USD.That is crazy!!!
That´s why nobody is buying musicmans here.
I have to find another way...
