Question stingray or sterling how do i tell?

i've had a 5 string music man for years and was never sure if it is a stingray or sterling. how do you tell the difference?
it has 1 p/u near the bridge.

to spot one from a distance you should look at the pickguard. the sterling is a bit asymetrical compared to the stingray one

if youre up close, the other ones have pritty much nailed the procedure

(4 string) The Stingray has a chrome guard under the control knobs, where as the Sterling does not.

(5 string) The Stingray has a larger pickguard that goes under the control knobs. The Sterling has an oval pickguard.

The 5 sting Sterling was introduced just a couple years ago. so, if you've had it for a while odds are its a Stingray 5.

Just take a good look at the bass.

Which one looks more like yours?

Since you've had it "for years", then it's a StingRay 5.

What a funny question. John already stated the obvious - ummmm, look on the headstock. Had it for years? As also mentioned, it's prolly a Stingray 5, since the Sterling 5 has only been out since 2008. Maybe it's an OLP. Maybe someone refinished the headstock and sanded off the logos in the process? Look at all the basses on the MM site. Look at yours. Like I said - funny question.
