Was in GC yesterday and tried out a few Stingrays acousticaly while waiting for an order to be processed (Classic, Ray34, and a standard Stingray).

Are the neck shapes the same for these instruments?
I'm referring to the width, thickness, and outer radius as the fretboard radius has never been that big a deal for me.

I had assumed that I would like the Classic best but thought that the standard Ray was closser to my 1983 and more to my liking. Will have to go back when it's quiet enough to really audition a bass as the sale had attracted a lot of potential buyers.

Another reminder (to me) that one should be open minded and not have pre-conceived ideas based on the internet without playing an instrument for themselves.

Classic definitely feels different to me. The Radius is 7.25" and I know that has to be part of it. Not sure about the other specs but it feels a bit narrower but thicker from center of board to the string....I LOVE them both and have no problem going back and forth...The Classic is a real treat though!

Peace,

T

Thought I'd bump this around one more time to see if anyone had any thoughts or comments about outer neck shape.

My 01 SR4 has a beefier feeling neck than my 85, I like the neck better on the 01 but the 2 band pre in the 85 better than the 3 band in the 01 (the mojo of the 85 is way cooler than the 01, though someday maybe it'll catch up)
