Stingray pickup questions

Hi everyone,the pole pieces on my SR pickup are sharp..(1994)it's about 5/32 away from bottom of strings(top of poles) and they keep scratching my fingers when i'm playin fairly hard.I've tried changing my playing style and still the same.My questions are ,can i send my used pickup back to MM factory and get a newer one with rounded edges? How much would it cost ?How long does it take to get one once they receive the old one?Does the bass loose value if i swap my p.u. for newer MM p.u.?And finally,can i do it myself or should it be done by a tech?

By the way,it's not a matter of hurting my fingers,it's more because it affects my playing,kind of slowing me down when it scratches.
