Hi,

Does anyone know the alnico magnet length of a pre ernie ball Stringray bass (ie. 1976, 1977)? Any other pickup specs (eg. core height) are most welcome.

Note: I'm not interested in the specs of pickup copies by other manufacturers, I'm after the "real deal".

Regards,

Michael

Aragorn35016,

Thanks for the welcome and the pointer to the link in the sticky. I did actually look at the page and it provided some really good information, but not what I really need.

What I need is the inner height of the coil (ie. the height from the top flatwork to the bottom flatwork), see MM bobbin below:

==============
__| | | | | | | |__ <- what is the height of the inner coil?
--------------------------
__| | | | | | | | <- exposed magnets at bottom of bobbin

Regards,

Michael

Mine measures 0.27" from the underside of the top flat to the upper side of the bottom flat.

bdgotoh, thanks for the measurement I appreciate it. Is the bobbin from an original '76/'77 pickup?

I'm starting to piece the dimensions together. How about the core length, which is basically the length between the outer magnet of the G string to the outer magnet of the E string on a four string pickup.

I'm curious - are you planning to build a vintage Stingray pickup?

If yes, I have '77 with a later year pickup and I would like to get hold of a 'long-pole' pickup.

Of course, if anyone has a spare '76 to '78 long pole pickup please contact me.

Hi todd4ta, yes, I'm going to build one, but it's proving difficult getting the specs. I have data to work from, but it would be better to document the dimensions as close as possible.

Anyone, if you have this type of pickup and some calipers and have a few minutes to measure everything please let me know. I can write a list of what to measure and how if you need it.

Regards,

Michael

Core length?

Thinking about it, maybe Dj was referring to the bobbin or core width of both humbuckers together, which is not really useful info come to think of it.

I'll write the list out anyway, to make it easier. If anyone has any of the following info on a coil please let us know:

Pickup Core
- Core length (of one coil). Measured from the end of the left most magnet to the edge of the right most magnet
- Core height (of one coil). Measured from the inner part of the top flatwork, to the inner part of the bottom flatwork

Magnets
- Magnet diameter
- Magnet length

Flatwork
- Thickness of the top and bottom flatwork
- Width and length of the top and bottom flatwork
- Distance between each magnet
- Distance from the left most edge of the bottom flatwork to the left most edge of the closest magnet

Cover
Dimensions of the plastic cover:
- width
- length
- depth

Resistance
I know this is already available in the sticky, but each pickup is different and the info is interesting
- ohms of each coil
- ohms of complete pickup

Regards,

Michael
