Hi,

Recently installed Aguilar MM4 pickup in my Stingray bass.
Pickup sounds great but when I'm touching pole pieces while not touching strings, I get a loud buzz. When I touch strings the buzz disappears. There is also electric "click" sound when I touch strings or metal parts.
What could be the problem?

Are you still using the original preamp, or did you swap that out as well?

Sounds like something wasn't hooked up right.

It's original preamp. This is 2005 Stingray and had problems with original pickup so had to change it.
The buzz disappears when I touch strings but there's slight delay before buzz "fades" out..

Just can't remember if the original pickup did the same. It just lost its power.
Are Stingray pickup polepieces normally grounded?

IMO you have a grounding problem (earth connection) with the electronics.

Trace the preamp wiring. Look foe loose or adrift wires.

Customer Service can provide a schematic diagram and advice if needed.

We have checked the wirings couple of times, but we'll investigate more. My previous Stingray had problems with input jack, could that cause this kind of problems.

Received a wiring diagram from Ernie Ball. Great customer service.
We have gone through all wirings and it seems that they're ok. Do original Stingray pickups have grounded polepieces? Could it be that Aguilar doesn't and that is causing the buzz. Just guessing...
