Found this picture on the U2 site. I thought Adam Clayton only played old Jazzes or Laklands. Appears to be a Stingray in his hand!!

Yeah, I thought so too. But I was listening to Joshua Tree again lately & swore I heard a Ray in one tune, for sure.

What is the context of that pic? Did they play in a church?

Looks like they may be recording (?) .... maybe just recoding their practice as well. I remember reading that they record (or did at one point) every practice because they were never sure what might come out of it.

I think that's a very old picture. I believe they recorded Unforgettable Fire in a castle (Slane Castle) in Ireland, and I believe that's what this photo is from, not sure though.

They released a live DVD from a concert they played outside that castle years later, and I believe there was some footage from the recording sessions and this looks familiar from that. We have the DVD, It'll be a good time to dig it out and watch it again.

Picture is not that old - Adam has greyish hair ;) - as mentioned earlier its taken in their Dublin base from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb rehersals/recording

Yeah, I think Slane is much bigger than that. Bono was sporting the super-mullet with a bit of skunk stripe at the time of The Unforgettable Fire too. It looks to be relatively recent.

Definitely a Stingray... I've blown it up and sharpened it best I could, for such a small image. Definitely an SR4H!

by the way, a good friend lovingly refers to my SR4H as the "mother-of-toilet-seat bass" :)

Would be interesting to know what songs were recorded with that StingRay. I always had the impression that some of Adam Clayton's sounds were "'rayish".

I've never seen Adam with a MM bass before either. Hopefully we'll see/hear more of it in the future...
Definitely not Unforgettable Fire period, Bono was sporting an impressive mullet during that time, if it's possible to be impressed by a mullet...:p Adam looks much older too.

Which song was that RobertB? I'll have to listen to it again, I'm intrigued...

yeah, I watched the Slane Castle DVD this weekend, the picture in question is defintely a LOT more recent than the Slane Caste/Unforgettable Fire sessions. Couldn't believe how young those guys looked back then!?!
