Im just wondering, if I WAS able to get my hands on some sterling Electronics and I put it in a ray, would it sound the same as a sterling? Im just asking for two reasons, one it would be diffrent and I like the tone of the Sterling more, tho the ray is great, it would be cool.

A big part of the Sterling tone is the ceramic magnet pickup, but the preamp is different too. There seems to be some differences in the low end particularly - the Sterling seems to have more low end on tap than any 3 band Stingray I've had.

For me the best combination is a Stingray alnico pickup and a Sterling preamp. I think the SR5 20th will sound awesome for that reason.

I'm not sure of the physical dimensions of the Sterling pickup but they do have a dummy coil underneath. In other words, a Sterling pickup wont fit the Sting Ray pickup cavity.

Sure Gav, they are exactly the same length and width as a Stingray pickup, just the height is different as you said.

Whats the best way I can get a stingray to sound like a sterling? And how close would it be? Im in love with two diffrent beasts. Stingrays looks and Sterlings sound. But If it comes down to it.. Sound over looks.
