Hi all,

I've recently got hold of a beautiful '79 'ray that I've been lusting after for tooo many years. On getting it home and having a twang, I noticed the action was a little high and the neck quite dished, so I decided to give the trusrod a tweak. It was at this point I found the bullet adjuster hole is rounded out!! No adjustment available and no nice low action how I like it. :(

So I emailed Ernie Ball's customer service and Scott replied saying the bullets are now obsolete (!!) and they have non left in stock. I've tried a few UK retailers and either get "we'll have to order them in." or "Can't get em anymore mate." I'm guessing the former will find out the latter when they enquire about them.

So, does anyone have any idea where I can get a replacement bullet from?? It's ridiculous that this superb bass could be consigned to the scrap heap for want of a small "obsolete" part. I'm desperate... please help me!!!! :( :( :(

I was surprised too Gav, especially since I trawled this forum for info first and found a previous thread in which you gave the part number and another saying someone had got a bullet from EB etc!!

The reply from Scott was:

Thank you for contacting Ernie Ball Music Man. You can try our UK
distributor listed below, but those parts may be obsolete. We do not
have them in stock. They might have a recommendation.

Maybe I should have told them it was for my '89 Ernie Ball Stingray rather than my '79 MusicMan Stingray...?
Technically that is now correct as I managed to get the mangled bullet out of the '79 and put the one from the '89 on there just so I can play it!!

I'll give the German shops a try, I'm still going to be trying other UK stores and the main wholesaler when they're open on Monday .As a last resort will contanct some engineering mates to see if they can make one (or ten).

O/T, my '79 is one already listed on your site and I have the details for the '89 and a '94 Sterling if you want them. :)

I'd contact Scott again and quote the part number. There was a stuation about a year ago where some one was looking for mutes. Initially EB said they didn't have them but when the part number was quoted, the had exactly one set left.

So.....you could get lucky by quoting the part number...maybe one or two in a corner somewhere ;)

I bought two of them. If it comes to the crunch, you can have one of mine.

But anyhow...try Scott again.

Good luck.

P.S.

>>>I have the details for the '89 and a '94 Sterling if you want them.

Yeah....thanks.

Also, person to speak to at "Insound" is Bernd.....email "Attention Bernd" and give him the part number. He only works Saturdays so you may have to be patient.

Gav, thanks for the kind offer, most generous!!

Luckily, I don't think I will need to take you up on it. I called the UK distributers today and the parts guy found the very last bullet he had in an odds and ends box!! So a big thanks to Kevin at Strings And Things for sending it to me!! :D

Judging by the response I was getting from the music stores themselves ("I'll have to order it in" to "Nah mate, you can't get em anymore") I got the last one in the UK (unless there's a store with one hidden away somewhere)!!!!!
