Sometimes when I listen to Kubicki sound especially when somebody pops the d and g strings, it is very similar to a Ray.

Have you ever owned one and how is it compared to your Ray or Sterling?

They never appealed to me visually and the lack of a headstock really freaked me out. Same reason I never got into those other headless basses....felt like my left hand was sliding off into infinity.

Yes but they have sth of the Fender family........
i really dislike headless instruments but this one is quite different.

As for headstocks etc, would you consider an Alembic series I or II some time in the future?

I've owned both and had my Kubicki for a little over a year. The Kubicki is a great sounding bass and slaps well, but the reason I sold mine (aside from being stupid) was that I had trouble getting comfortable with the 32" scale. I like the "space age" look; I mean, it's not the traditional look like the Bongo, but still appealing. Got mine for $700 which was a great deal and regret selling it.

I guess like a lot of things in life, it's a matter of personal taste.

Bet they sound nice though.

The early pre-Fender Kubickis are great basses. I've been on the lookout for one at the right price for awhile now. But only black. I think the other colors look cheap.

You actually mean the Fender Custom Shop Kubickis. Am I wrong?
As for the color, black is wonderful, but I'd also love to have one in "80's" Red. That bright kitsch red is more nostalgic of that period.......
