I changed my mind and decided to get a :

black StingRay
rosewood fretboard
black pickguard
matching headstock

since bass central didnt have it on stock, i am ordering off of musicians friend with a money order, im sending it tomorrow :)
this is my first musicman!

i chose StingRay because i like the p neck better, i don't really know why i like thicker necks better... i have small asian hands ahaha, and im a teen so yeah. And also i like bigger bodies so i can rock out easier without the bass flopping around everywhere. yeahh rock on.

Your new Sting Ray

will look the same as my new Sting Ray 5.....Same EXACT setup!

I ordered mine back in March.....I e-mailed them recently to ask when it would ship out from the factory, and Scott Ball e-mailed me back to say that it should ship next week or so. I can't wait!

If you don't mind me asking - what made you choose THAT configuration? As for me, I play for my church, and our piano is a shiny black grand piano.....I set up next to it, so I thought I'd keep it uniform.

I also plan to get a Sting Ray, and this time, I'll get a little more creative with the setup (the folks on this site have inspired me by seeing their creations). I LOVE the one that SpectorBassGuy has with the matching knobs......

And don't listen to those guys with their fancy schmancy abalone pickguards. Black on black is where it's at!

I own an SR4, SR5, and a Sterling, and they all sound different. The Sterling is definitely not as aggressive sounding as the Ray, but it certainly can hold its own. It's actually got a different pickup. The Sterling has a smaller body and slimmer neck which I find more than makes up for any sound differences. If I need the Stingray sound, I pull it out, but I play the Sterling most of the time.
