I was curious how the Bongo 5 single humbucker sound compares to the Stingray 5 sound. I know the electronics in the Bongo make it very versatile but can it sound like a Stingray? Does it have that percussive bite? I have yet to come by a single humbucker Bongo to hear how it sounds.

Pardon the indelicacy, but it sounds kickass. A little more impolite than an SR5, methinks.

Doesn't the H bongo have the same 3 band pre as the SR5? Don't know how the neo magents will change the tone compared with the SR5...

Not quite. It has a three band preamp, but they aren't the same circuit, and the Bongo's 3 band EQ is still 18V vs 9V for the SR.

Interesting exercise but won't give the required answer Rob because the bridge pick-up on the Bongo HS and HH is closer to the bridge than on the Bongo H. And I suspect that the same is true of the SR5 HH. He was looking for a comparison of a Bongo H v an original SR5.

Ah well - I will just get on with rehearsing then - and getting use to the Bongo before gigging at the weekend....

On the other hand you could answer a different question - How does an SR5 HH compare to a Bongo HS. ;)

While the bridge humbucker is in a slightly different place on the single H vs HH/SH Bongos, the bridge pickup on dual pickup Stingrays/Sterlings is in the same place as the single pickup variations.

Exactly...which is why I would like a comparison. A Stealth Bongo 5 is looking very tempting to me and may just steal my heart away from the upcoming Sterling 5 if I get sick of waiting. :)

My SR5 which I love more than life itself has more growl than the Single H Bongo 5. However the Bongo 5 just has what almost anyone anywhere would say is the best bass tone ever. I play flats on both so that may be why I say what I say.

I gotta have both is what I think about it. They do sound different for sure. I guess snarl is the word for my SR5.
