What do you guys reckon, I have a 1994 MMEVH owned from new. The only changes I have made are fitting Schaller straplocks and a d-tuna.

What I would like to know is this - am I missing anything here that would make me shell out for a Wolfgang or Charvel EVH series? Seems like a waste of money to me, no matter how big an EVH fan I am. Any advantages on the other models?

I do not own any of those guitars you have mentioned, however, I have read a ton of material about them and can only offer my opinion. Stay away and keep your EBMM EVH. Save your money and stick with what you have. Drop some loot on the new Morse or JP, but why even bother buying a overpriced Strat with stripes or wanna-be EBMM EVH?.....my 2 pennies.

Oh I don't know, I have a Wolfie and I love it...I don't think he's sayin that he wants to sell, just had more EVH stuff...Ebay has alot of reasonably priced Wolfies. However the Charvel's are moocho expensivo!

Ah, I was right...well if your a fan, your a fan right...I love my Wolfie for the simple reason that it was an inexpensive USA made alternative to purchasing an Axis, plus I love the Wolfie's neck, unlike the Axis which is not to my liking.

I've owned 5 Wolfgangs. 2 Standards, 2 specials, and a Flametop Special. The last one I owned was the Flametop Special, which for all practical purposes is basically as close to an Axis/EBMMEVH as you can get and still call it a Wolfgang. After I got over the novelty of having a guitar with EVHs name on it, I tried an Axis. I have owned 3 Axis' since then, and haven't looked back since.

I can't knock the Wolfgang. It is an outstanding guitar. It is just not up to the quality of the Axis.

I wouldn't say that you are missing anything by not having one. There are some differences that you may appreciate though. The fretboard on the Wolfgang feels quite a bit different than the Axis/EVH. Going from the EBMM to the Wolfgang kind of feels like going from a Strat neck to a Les Paul neck. Fretboard seems flatter, to me anyway. The pickups on the Wolfgang are quite a bit different as well. They are a little darker, and don't clean up as well. The Wolfgang would be better for plugging into a Dual Rectifier than a EBMM would.

I kind of liked the carved top on the Wolfgang too. It made the Wolf a little more comfortable to play than the EBMM.

If I were you, and I had the money to spend, I would recommend picking up a Wolfgang Standard Stop Tail. You already have an EVH guitar with a trem, so why not have one without. The fact of the matter is that the Stop Tail Wolfgangs sound better than any of the other Wolfgangs out there. Maybe it's the combination of the regular nut and the stop tail, or maybe it's because there's more wood due to the lack of a route for the trem springs, but the thing just sounds great.

Let it go on record that I would sacrifice my girl for death before I part with my red EVH. :D (She doesn't read these forums, I'm safe...LOL!)

Trust me, I do. :)

Darrell's Chick's Stomping Grounds:
-Neopets
(RANT: how can a 31 year old chick be into that? Geez. Well, as long as she ain't riding my a**, I guess it works...)
-Netscape.com
-Starting Over message boards (some chick show)
-Hyster Sisters (she had a hysterectomy last year, kind of her support group, research thing)
-some games I lobbed on her iMac

Getting her to pull up anything outside of those is like asking her to slice her wrist...I tried to get her to pull up the finance company's website to check the remain. balance on the car this morning (because both of my comp's were off, I was about ready to crash, etc.) and there was blood everywhere after that.

She has her own little bubble of places, and that's why I worry not. I also know that she can't get into trouble that way. (She just saves that for the real world, where it's more painful and costly...LOL!)

Anyhow, back to task...sorry for hijacking the thread. :)

I have a Wolfgang, but didnt care much for the pickups. compared to the ones in my Axis and EVH. Luckily I got a set of Dimarzio Axis pickups off ebay and the Wolfgang sounds superb now. That said I wouldnt touch one of those new Charvels with a barge pole!

Pretty much what I thought but I needed to hear it from other like minded people. I reckon if I do fork out for a new ax, a petrucci or that limited anniversary Morse could be the way to go. But don't worry guys, my EBMM EVH is staying - I may even be buried with it as I'm the only one to have waited 8 1/2 months to get my hands on it - no-one else is deserving of my ''baby'' :)
