...as well as a Tobacco burst ASS and a Silhouette I found.
This store in particular was really well stocked with EBMM product today. Lots of JPs, including BFR models, a handful of Silos and Axis and ASS and one JP50. Nice selection!
Thumbs up on the JP50. The difference between the EBMM JP and it's Sterling counterpart are felt more than heard. Tonewise the JP50 ballparks the tone of a base model JP pretty well right out of the box. I'd still wanna change the pickups out on general principle and because I'm a tweaker like that but I'd leave everything else be. The neck is smooth and very playable and the frets were all very well done and even. Clean action, great sustain too. I think it's a great option for people who like the EBMM JP but cannot or may not be ready to drop the coin for one. Thumbs up! I asked the store when a Sterling Silo20 or AX40 would be in stock and no one knew. Oh well... hopefully!
I've never gotten the chance to play an ASS but a there was one in the store today with a particularly top in tobacco burst and a maple neck. Having plaxed only the Axis is was nice to finally get the chance to compare. I like the ASS much more, as it turns out. I've nothing against double-locking trems and the EBMM unit on the Axis is one of the better ones out there, but I just liked the ASS so much more with it's 2-point trem. The whole guitar just felt better to me, more stable and less resistant. I love those pickups too... I gotta get an Air Norton/Tone Zone set to cop that one of these days.
The Silhouette I tried was a White/black guard one with a trem and a rosewood fretboard. Typical Silhouette awesomeness. I still like the balance of the Silo Special bodies better but the Silos still rule. The trem helped the guitar make all sorts of neat shimmery sounds through a Deluxe Reverb Reissue.
...until next time! I wonder if the El Toro store's got anything cool lately?
