I would like to buy some of the EBMM strap button screws that are fitted to the Axis. My new amber Axis has had Schaller strap locks fitted, but the original screws were not supplied and the shorter Schaller screws keep coming loose.

How can I buy these, bearing in mind I am in the UK?

Yo Tim,

Give the blokes at Strings and Things a call: 01273 440 442. They should be able to help you out.

Ok Beth, I will take you up on this offer!

D'OH.....

I just take whatever screw I have, run to Lowes and head for the screw isle. They've got 'em in metric, english, flat head, dome head, in various lengths... some brass, some stainless steel....

... the only time I haven't been able to find a good replacement screw was tiny allen set-screws for a bridge.

Other option in a pinch is to fill the hole and re-drill it for the shorter screws.

A mixture of sawdust and wood glue (and or wood dowell, toothpicks, whatever you have handy made out of wood) will fill the hole just fine. Once dry you can drill it for the new screws and they'll hold just fine. Done this on a few guitars when desperate.

my misguided solution is to stick a toothpick in the hole, break it off almost to the top, replace screw, repeat steps 1 and 2 until tight. the process usually take 4 tries. I came up with this in a bar a few years ago when the strap peg on my les paul popped out of the hole and the only nearby wood product was coctail toothpicks. I do this to my MM's with positive results. and it's cheap.

yes, fire away. I know I'm a nutcase.

I've done the exact same thing, usually I add some wood glue though as well. The one's I've done it to are rock solid.

Yep, a toothpick and wood glue are all ya need. If you don't use the glue also the toothpick will eventually loosen up. :)

you know the crazy thing?? 5 years and my first Axis' pegs have never come loose! (& I use the schallar straplocks w. the little buttons and screws). all my other ones are the same too. it's nuts.

I've resorted to numerous "fixes" for stripped strap-screw holes in various guitar bodies over the years, but I've always admired the fact that EBMM use screws so long that I've never had a problem with my Axes... Every other guitar manufacturer on the planet uses a screw that's "long enough", and EBMM use a screw that's twice as long - I think that kind of detail is telling... ;)

All differents little things like those add to the superior quality EBMM guitars have, the team at EBMM really know how to build such high end instruments ! ;)

When I installed Dunlops on my guitar (not EBMM), I had to do the toothpick/glue thing because the new screw was smaller, but I had to use it because the stock screw's head was too big to fit through the strap button. I was a little apprehensive at first, but it was easy and now it's stronger than it was before.
