I purchased a used JP6 a while back (and it's an amazing instrument, I must say), and it came with strap locks preinstalled. I'm not sure of the brand, but there are plastic clips on the strap which clip into clips that are screwed into the guitar, and kinda dangling there.

Anyways, it's annoying, because the strap doesn't tighten very far, and then the guitar is down below my stomach and very difficult to play standing up. So, does anyone have any recommendations for strap locks that aren't these, so I can use a smaller strap? Thanks!

Sounds like DiMarzio ClipLock.

I like Schaller strap locks. When they come out, I imagine I'll prefer EB strap locks.

The DiMarzio ClipLock, if that's what you have has a long-strap and shorter-strap version. Maybe you need the short strap. i think if you contact DiMarzio, they may be able to help you.

Ok, good to know. I'll check those out. I was also looking at the Dunlop ones. I'm wondering which would be better...one might fit better than the other or something? Anyone know?

Yep, sounds like Dimarzio cliplocks. I like the cliplocks better than the dunlop strap locks... I have both kinds on my 2 JPs, and the cliplock is nicer and looks better. Of course, I am using the cheap $3 EB strap with the dunlop locks and it digs into my neck. Prob be changing it out soon.

I've got Dunlop strap locks on my JP and I'm satisfied with them.
I have Schaller strap locks on my other guitar and they're pretty good too.

Wait a little while and get the brand-spankin'-new Ernie Ball strap locks, in your choice of three colors!

I put schaller straplocks on mine. I did it 'cuz I have schallers on my Les Paul, and wanted to use the same strap.

That's one thing I still need to get on my JP, a strap, and strap locks, any recommendations? I really like the Ernie Ball straps but Music Stop and a few other stores didn't have any. The Dimarzio Cliplocks seem to be a big hit, but I'm afraid the buckles might scratch the paint.

I've got Schallers on all of mine, they're great. (One day I'll probably replace 'em with the EBs, when they're commonly available.)

JSX: No need to worry about the finish when using Dimarzio's Cliplocks! The finish on EB guitars is hard as nails and it will take a lot more than a little plastic clip to harm it! I've had them on my new JP with no troubles. The strap matched my White JP PERFECTLY too, so I couldn't pass it up. I am going to replace the dunlop strap locks on my MD JP with some Dimarzios cliplocks as soon as money allows...
