Hey all, need some help:

1. I went to install Schaller Strap Lock buttons on my JP7. I did the same thing last year when I got my JP6. With my JP6, I was able to reuse the stock strap button screws with the Schaller buttons, the screw bottomed out in the Schaller button as it should've. Not the case with my JP7. The screw head bevel must be just a little bigger than what was used on my JP6 because I can't get the screw head to go any deeper than slightly below flush with the Schaller button. I really don't want to use the Schaller supplied screws as the are a little thinner and the thread pattern is a little different. So I have them installed with the stock screws, the buttons are tight but I'd say the screws are probably five or six threads backed out of the existing hole. Is this okay? Alot of the screw did go into the hole in the body.

2. I realize the easiest answer to my next question is buy a container of Wonderwipes but I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Stelling Glyde-Cote? It's a cleaner/polish for instruments and is made by Stelling Banjo Works. I have two bottles of this stuff and I used it to clean the bodies of my Terry McInturff guitars as they were nitro finished and it's what Terry himself recommended. Since this stuff was nitro finish friendly which I believe is a pretty thin/fragile finish, would it be okay to use on my JP bodies? All the bottle says chemical-wise is "contains petroleum distillates."

3. School me on strings, particularly with the JP series. I did check the FAQ page (as recommended over at the String Page) and I was surprised to find out that the JP6 comes from the factory with 9's. I was kind of shocked because I thought the JP series came from the factory with 10's? All of my string changes were with 10's and the trem sits perfectly parallel everytime. I'm going to continue to use 10's on my JP6 but it has me wondering what I should with on my JP7.

All JPs that I've played recently including the one that I bought a month or so ago have been strung with 10s.

The JPs did come from the factory with 10s. JP himself has switched to 9s. I guess that's why the change was made. I imagine that means new JPs will come with 9s.

With the strap locks-

Some times the stock EBMM screws fit the locks, sometimes the screw heads are slightly too big. I've got examples of both.

A good solution is to go to your local hardware store and buy wood screws the same length and thread of the MM screws but with a smaller head. That's what I've done.

More often than not the screws don't fit the schaller straplocks. Standard protocol for me is to shove a toothpick or two in the hole and use the schallar screw.
I have never had a problem doing that.

I miss Jon
