I just picked up some Ernie Ball strap locks from Sam Ash today! They are very cool, seem very durable and look like they stay in. I have a quick question: should I install the strap buttons on my JP6 with the screws from the stock strap buttons or with the ones provided with the Strap Locks?

I also got some RPS 10's. I never got them before, but I noticed that on each individual strap "sleeve," the 3 highest strings have the blue front with RPS on it, but the other 3 have the regular front that you would see on the regular nickel Slinkys. Are they supposed to be this way? It doesn't seem right. I got two packs, and they both have the same thing.

For the strap locks: they are the same screw, so you can use either one.

As for your RPS strings, yes they should be that way. RPS stands for "Reinforced Plain Strings," so the unwound strings have been reinforced to help prevent string breakage that often occurs at the ball end. The wound string won't have that extra "sleeve."

By the "sleeve" I meant the little package each string comes in haha. I should have been more clear with that haha.

Thanks for the help with the strings! But the stock screw on the guitar is longer than the one from the strap locks. I guess I should just use the stock screw, but I'm not sure.

Yo bro!

I have two responses for you. The official word from the EB crew, is that you should use the screws that come with the strap locks. Apparently they work all fine and dandy. You should listen to them.

I did not listen to them, and used the screws in my guitar from the old strap pins. The screws work just fine, thank you very much.

Either way works, but the official word is probably the better of the two.

Thanks dude! I used the screws that came with the Strap Locks, and they worked perfectly. I'm really digging them!

As for the RPS strings, thems things is badass. I only use them on my guitars. I had my store special order them in, and we can't keep them on the shelves now!

Before I installed the EB strap locks into my Silo, I compared the stock screws with the screws that came with the strap locks. They appear to be the same diameter, with the same threading, and so forth, with the only discernible difference being that the stock screws are longer than the screws that come with the strap locks. I think there is a good reason for this.

The stock screws sit "higher up" into the stock strap buttons, whereas the screws in the strap lock buttons sit "lower" into the button and, therefore, are closer to the body of the guitar. If one uses the stock screw instead of the screw provided with the strap lock, I believe it will work...but the result will be a screw that is driven deeper into the body wood. But if the strap lock screws are used with the strap lock, it seems that the result will be a screw that is not driven any deeper into the wood than was the original screw when the guitar was manufactured.

I have to say that I was disapointed with these, it's fault - I didn't read the previews, but I was under the impression that i wouldn't need to swap the strap buttons, - if I knew I'd had to do that I'd have stuck with what i had.

I PM'd Jodizzle to confirm before posting this to confirm that i'm stupid rather than an angry customer, and it's not a fault - as I said it's my mistake in not reading - just in my humble opinion would have been better if te EB straplocks used the existing EBMM guitar strap buttons.

Not a rant, just a little disapointed.

I hear you, Smelly. When the strap locks were first announced, I assumed I wouldn't have to mess with the existing buttons. Then when I found out I would, I was not happy. But when the strap locks finally made it to my local dealer, I thought, "what the heck?" and bought them anyway. I was going to put them on my Sub 1 first but again thought, "what the heck?" and decided to go for the gusto, as it were, so I went ahead and put them on my Silo.

I've no regrets, and now I rather like the look of the new buttons. :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I put them on. I put the stock screw through the stock button and the strap lock screw through the strap lock button and put them side-by-side. They had the same length, so I used the Strap Lock screws.

Thanks for the help guys! They Strap Locks look really cool and so far, they're working great. They feel very safe haha. Now all I need is a nice strap.
