So do the rubber grommet from the tops of Grolsch botles.

While 90% of my basses wear Dunlops (both Bongos have flush mounted), I have a hollowbody on the way that will get the grolsch treatment. :D

Yeah, you gotta be very careful with hollow bodies, not as much wood to screw around with.:D

if I ever DO need to use a regular strap I can do so. Can't do that with the Schallers

Yes you can. The shallers work with a normal strap, even though the button part isn't gigantic.
I don't have straplocks on the Bongos, because that big button feels real secure.

I'm a Dunlop man (all my basses and straps have them), but there's nothing wrong with the Schaller locks either. It boils down to personal preference.

Same here. Have used Dunlops for years on all my basses. Never "let me down", or my bass!:p

Funny you should bring this up...

...because I just put some Dunlops on my Sterling not more than 3 hours ago...:D

I bought a used Les Poor a month or so ago that came with the Dunlop posts, but, of course, not the strap parts, so I bought a set to get the strap parts and had extra posts, so now I am picking up a set every few weeks and working my way through the inventory...the Splatocaster is next

That being, said, I always felt the EB posts were just fine, and mine never slipped...good stuff, like you expect from EB.

I realize you all could be right about the standard buttons. I based my descision for straplocks on breaking a Fender over a strap coming off the buttons. No way in hell my SR5 or Bongo is going to suffer that fate.

Oh, man, you're kidding me! I've had a few slip, bought I was quick enough (at least back when I was younger) to catch 'em before they hit the floor...

You must have been SUPREMELY pissed!

Well, take a look and decide for yourself. Here are the Schaller buttons...nothing but a small groove to actually hold the strap if you're using a plain strap:

Here are the Dunlop Universal buttons:

I sure wouldn't want to trust my bass to the groove on the Schaller buttons.

BUT...the Schaller's design is utterly foolproof, even if not engaged. Gravity holds the bass in the lock part.

As I said, I've used both, and prefer the Dunlop. YMMV.....

I'm with TK.

Even though the EB strap buttons look awesome, I still put strap locks on all my basses just because of past experiences. I don't think I've ever dropped one, but I've come seriously close a time or two.

I almost promised myself to be shut up after my last post.

I was going to say if you think Schallers have failed you are wrong, but then I decided wtf.

You could be right.
Chances are you are wrong.

No big deal to me either way.
