it went for 1025...for a used stingray 4 banger...ma, whats going on in the world
 
I got outbidded by a newbie! My eBay account was blocked, so bid through my mom's account, ten_angel. Anyone think I should follow it up, and see? This guy bidded about 10 times in the last 10 minutes, all the way on up, so it really makes me wonder.

My proxy? I set my bid early in the morning at $1000. Not by machine. I'm just bummed that this guy kept upping the bid so high, so many times.

A machine has nothing to do with it. It's still a 'by proxy' bid when you bid your maximum amount and eBay handles the incremental increase for you.

Nothing strange at all about someone bidding 10 times in ten minutes, either.
Everyone is bummed when they don't bid enough to win something, but he outbid you fair and square. Apart from being a zero feedback buyer (and the auction doesn't say 'no zero feedbacks'), there is nothing fishy about his actions in the least.

When you place a bid it just goes up to the first minimum increment above the highest bidder. That is your proxy. It has nothing to do with a "machine". That way you don't have to bid any more than the minimum increment above the next highest bidder. Even though you bid $1000, by looking at the bid history your initial bid went in at $825 ($10 higher than the highest bid that had been made up until that point in the auction). That's why he started bidding at $835 and kept bidding in minimum increments until he found out your maximum. You will notice that at one point his bid was the same as yours. At that point, he bid the minimum, $25, over your proxied $1000. That's how Ebay works and that's why I usuallly don't even place a bid until the very last second for the maximum that I'm willing to pay. That way the person running the auction can't have someone they know go in and sniff out my highest bid and then make a "second chance offer" to me after the auction is over.

Not only would shipping eat up any savings, with the dollar worth crap right now, £550 is over $1000 US ($1,041.22 to be exact). It's been a loooooong time since £550 was only $730.
