Hi all you EB/Musicman Stingray 5 players.
Could someone please explain the what "string gauge" actually means?
What gauge of EB strings should I use as replacements for my Stingray 5 and why?
the guage refers to the thickness of the string.Thicker strings require higher tension to reach pitch. Lower tension strings are thinner. You might have to tweak your truss rod and re-set your action and intonation if you are changing guages. If you play hard you might be better off with heavier strings. It's all personal preference so you should experiment before you settle on one string type. Some players have rounds on one bass and maybe flats on another. I like a low tension flat wound string to get that old school thump that works for the material I play. YMMV
