I have no idea what happened or how although I have a suscpicion but my SR5HH was not sounding the best.

When I checked the string height, it was low as I like it but not all of the strings were the same and when I checked the pickup height, they were both way too high up and close to the strings.

I set everything back to exact specs per this website then had to adjust intonation. Funny thing is that I did not have to adjust the truss rod after I did this. All string and not just the B and G are right on at the 12th fret.

My point is that small adjustments like this make a big difference in the sound and definitely for the better and although they should not change, you should check them every once in a while.

I guess when you have a quality instrument like this small adjustments will make a huge difference in tone, sustain and intonation unlike other sloppy instruments.

OK, now for the subjective opinion question:

What do you folks set your string and pickup heights to and why? I know what is published here are factory settings and recommendations but we make adjustments to suit our own sounds.

Let's see what you do and why (type sound, etc)

I have a pretty nice main rig and sometimes I get these days when it doesn't sound good to me. However, if I left it alone for a few days it sounds good when I finally play it again. Maybe it's the weather or maybe it's my mood. I realize this now and therefore restrain myself from chasing the gremlins when I sense that something is off because in reality, everything is the same. IME.
