is there any tonal difference between a string thru bridge and one thats a top load. ive seen stingrays with string thrus and now they make them with top loaders. does it make a difference on the tone or is it just to make the strings tighter?

When we did our intial research on the Stingray back in the early eighties we did a test between the top loaded bridges and the strings thru. We felt there was not enough of a difference to warrant tooling up for strings thru bodies. The Top Loaded bridge sounded great and we decided to implement this version into production. Here we are 20 years later and the top loaded bridge is still the norm.

We know there are some purists who feel the old
string thru's sound better ,and to them maybe they do, but we feel the top loader is the acceptable choice for production.

A couple of years ago we made some string thru
Stingrays and once again we felt there was not much of a difference.

I've tried it both ways on everything from Jazz basses to high dollar Laklands.

Difference? Nope. Of course, Eric Johnson can hear the difference in batteries in his stomp boxes, so.....

heh heh
