I have recently purchased a set of Earthwood Strings and I use a digital tuner, backed up by a computer program for tuning called Dirk's guitar tuner. My problem is that both programs are telling me my strings are flat and I keep tuning until it breaks. My question is, am i tuning new strings to hard to fast , or is there possibly damage to my guitar I do not know about? I live in a remote area in the desert of CA, with no local music shops or even a guitar center. Please help!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!! Sorry to hear that flameboy.

Hey, even in Death Valley there should be no problem tuning. lol, lol, lol

Here's what you do: By pass that tuning system you have for the time being. Put on a CD and play a song you know that is in a certain key. Then tune your guitar to the song. This will show you that it is NOT your strings that are the problem.

If you can't tune to that particular song without breaking strings, then you have a very serious guitar set up problem.

At least this will get you in the right direction for correction.

Two things come to mind. #1 make sure it is recieving your signal correctely. When I first started playing years ago I mistakenly plug into the out of the tuner and it just keept showing flat. In truth it was not reading my signal at all. #2 make sure that the tunner is set to A440. If it is not it won't give you the correct tension.

I always hit the 12th fret harmonic when tuning. Seems to be a more steady/stable tone.

Not sure that addresses your concern, but worth a shot I guess.
