Which could explain why I only used them twice! That said, they seem better than any Rotos I've used....

I should have said 'I've used....' as oppposed to 'I use....'

I'm exclusively Elixir these days.
 
I like the Elixir acoustic guitar strings. Maybe I'll try the bass strings too. How does the string tension of the Elixirs compare to EB Slinky's or Rotosounds?

I played Rotosounds on my Precision years ago. I used to like that "boinky" sound but they tore my frets up in short order :eek: . GHS were not much better.

I hope this isn't heresey on an Ernie Ball forum, but D'adderio half round heavy guages have been my choice for several years now. I think I'm just about the only guy on the planet who uses them. Every time I go to buy a set , it takes 3-4 weeks to get them. Less "boink" than roto's but still real lively and they don't chew up your frets :) .
It seems like most everyone goes with the lightest guage string possible, but the heavy guages sound so much fuller. The first time you go to a heavy guage they feel near impossible to move around ,but first impresssions are NOT everything. In a matter of days your hands get in shape for the heavys and the reward is a much thicker/ richer sound. It's kind of like lifting weights...it pays off once the pain goes away :D .
BTW: I really do use Ernie Balls on eveything else :)

There was a time ,many years ago, when Rotos were used by almost everybody. Players wanted that bright zing with the middles rolled off and the bass maxxed out.You can blame Entwhistle for that.I liked the sound better when they were starting to die but that bright,bassy, scooped sound was everywhere.Flats were standard issue on new basses back then -first thing you did was take off the covers and put on Rotos..Now new basses come with rounds and players rip them off and put on the flats.... This must drive the marketing guys nuts.

I really love Elixir Nanowebs. I find them comparable in terms of tension with reg. slinkys or DR lo-riders (nickel w/hex cores). Nice feel, nuetral tone, and more durable than I expected - playing hard w/pick mostly these days and no 'shedding'
after several months.

Yep, Roto's were quite the rage. As I mentioned, I've been playing half rounds for several years........but I've been thinking about trying a set of flats lately myself.
This is kind of weird....I thought it was just me.

So, what brands of flats are out there that won't kill all your volume and still have a little brightness???

My opinion is neck has to have bow you need Fender 9050's. Can get low action TI flats. Wanna play rounds EB Slinkys

Power Slinky® 5-String set (50-70-85-105-135)

Has anyone tried the Power Slinky® 5-String set (50-70-85-105-135) on a Stingray 5 or other 5-string bass? I've heard that the heavier guage strings produce a fuller sound.

Heavier guage will ALWAYS produce a fuller sound on anything.
If you go from a real light guage to a real heavy guage, your first reaction will probably be to yank them off and go back to the lights :eek: .
Don't make the change the day before a big gig or you'll likely embarass the heck out of yourself :o

Give it a few days and your hands will stengthen and you'll love the sound :) .

Without a doubt (2 to 3 times IMO). When new, they will not be as bright out- of-the-box as other new strings (I also use DR Sunbeams & NKL Lo-riders) but they will hold their characteristics & not go dead as fast as non-coated strings. I think they're great but that's coming from someone who does not like bright, zingy, strings - like SS strings.
