Yesterday I was in Denver because my wife had surgery on Monday. After a few days of going stir crazy in the hospital she gave me the blessing to go play at Guitar Center for a little bit. While there, I was really impressed to see they were carrying quite a bit of Music Man guitars. Literallly about 4 or 5 of every model except the Game Changer. I recently got rid of all of my guitars but want to get another soon with it being a Music Man though. The model that I have really liked so far is the JP model. I have also really been GAS'ing for a JP Mystic Dream. Well, they had one there so I finally got to play one. It played awesome too. After playing it and confirming that this is the guitar that I want next, I had a few questions.
1. On the locking tuners, the Guitar Center guy told me how they work is you pull the strings through them tight, lock them in place and then cut the excess off and that you don't need to worry about winding them around the peg. I also noticed that was how they had the guitar set up but I also noticed the guitar was not staying in tune that well but wen I picked it up, the low E was down tuned 2 steps and the rest of the strings were down tuned 1 step. I tuned the guitar back to normal but it would not stay in tune to save my life. As a bass player, I usually tune once when re-stringing my basses and then they might go slightly out of tune once or twice but never as badd as this thing was. The guy who was helping me said it was because they had a guy who wanted to buy the guitar previously so they set it up to his likings but then he backed out. His story didn't make sense to me though because the guitar seemed set up to Music Man specs and who would set up a guitar that would cause it to go out of tune badly?
2. This guitar has a Piezo bridge in it which I love. One of my old guitars had one before and I loved it too. I am confused though by how it works. There is 2 input jacks. 1 for Piezo and 1 for your regular pick ups. I understand running each one to a seperate amp and then switching back and forth but the guy also send I could blend the sounds and do everything through one amp but he didn't know how and neither do I? I know the bottom switch controlled the pickups so I am assuming the top switch controls the magnetic/piezo/blend because in the lower setting the guitar worked. Same in the middle setting and but with the switch in the up position, it didn't work but I also was not plugged in to the piezo input jack so if someone could explain how that works as well as the adjustment thing for the piezo in the back of the guitar, that would be much appreciated.
3. I love the Mystic Dream color scheme. Is that a regular option on the guitar or was it only a limited run? I won't be able to order a guitar for at least a year but that is the finish I want but if it was only a limited run, then I may just have to wait and find one used.
Thanks all.
And with my wife, her surgery went well. They had found a mass on her overy and had to do a hysterectomy but thankfully there was no cancer and she is recovering well.
