I'm looking for a spare sub4 bass body. (i want to do a swirl paint job on it, but don't want to reck my previous one.)
Does anyone know where i can get one from, i think musicman don't do replacements unless you return the original. is that right?
also will an OLP bass body just retrofit on, or will it need modification.
Or does anyone have one the english side of the atlantic, that they want to sell.

Thanks
Kieran

I managed to snap a slightly modded one up on a forum for a gooooood price with some sweet pickups (none original) but it was a very lucky find! You'll have to find a used one or buy the whole thing i'm afraid, they were discontinued a while ago and even then EBMM don't sell parts off.
As for the OLP thing, i got an OLP neck for mine, it wasn't a perfect fit but with 6 bolts in it that sucker aint going anywhere! I also have an OLP control plate on it that isn't exactly the same size, but that's only temporary and the bridge was a bitch to find, and it's not a particularly good one. Check out the link in my sig if you're interested.

In short, you're going to either have to buy a whole one or just be very lucky, and no i'm not willing to sell either of mine! :p

Story so far: Emailed beth at ernie ball,
Told me i could get one from a site in the UK called stringsandthings.co.uk
So i have emailed them explaining and i'm really hoping they will be able to get one for me. cause as you said they have stopped making them, even before i bought one, they had stopped ( so glad i got one in time)

Otherwise my winter project is fatally flawed. :(

Well i will wait for that and just keep checking ebay,
And the invitations still out, if anyone has a sub bass 4 body lying around, please PM me.

Cheers
K

There are several shops in the UK that still have them in stock, i doubt any of them could sort you out with just a body but the bass cellar on denmark street in london have a good four, but the staff in there are rude and obnoxious so it may not be worth bothering, but strings and things might have a couple left . I know for a fact there are a few on ebay at the moment though that would be much cheaper.

EDIT: do you already have a SUB bass?

Yeh i have the same blue as your frankenbass. the idea is i want to experiment with painting my bass but don't want to have to play my old rubbish bass in the mean time (which the electronics are gone, its just generally not very nice to play) , and also i want a back up body if i muck it up.

It was weird because i didn't expect this but the way beth put it it sounded like the dealers could order them, which was surprising but thats the way i read it.

But i'll just wait to the start of the week when i get a reply from strings & things.

also once i swirl paint by bass and switch the bodies i want to make the old body it to a HH sub. but thats just a far of future project for when i have the money. also i'd probably play around with some switches and stuff. so i could run 4 single coils in serial or just loads of different choices. Maybe fretless lined, jaco pastorius style.

I'm sure Music man have already done this and decided it wasn't worth it, but it'd be cool, even if i hardly used it. :)

sounds cool man, good luck on your hunt, though you may have more luck with an OLP and get some retrofit pickups/electronics or something.

Just for the information.

ernie ball and strings and things got back to me,

ernie ball still do replacement parts for SUB bass' and you can get them through the music man dealers.

but a new bass body will cost me £250 which isn't too bad, but for the price of second hand whole SUBs, its not really worth it.

Cheers
