So its been a while. I think i may finally get around to fixing the body of my active SUB 4 string. I got the bass cheap because the moron who owned it before me put a punch of odd gouges in it. I plan to strip the paint, fill the chips, and if possible carve the body so it matches the contours of a normal stingray (with the cutouts for your right arm and stomach). I plan on leaving the neck stock.

What is the finish on these things, and whats the best way to get it off?

Ive read wood filler is a better way to go for filling that bondo. Is this true? would you guys suggest something else?

Any general advice for a refinish on a SUB?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the color yet. I tried to find some info on here about the finish on the SUBS: it dosent seem to be a normal paint or poly type finish. Anybody have any ideas of what it is and how to get it off?

Sounds like a cool project.I would like to cut the contours it to one of my subs but I like the finish and don't want to wreck it.I would like to see how your bass turns out.
