I'm just wondering if anyone here has modded their Sub so that it more closely resembles a Steve Morse?
I really like my Sub, but the versatility of the Morse is so appealing, so I'm considering doing some upgrades.
Any thoughts?

It would be easy to turn a SUB into a Y2D version by routing out space for a singlecoil by the bridge, new pickguard and a controls.

Actually, I am also looking into adding a SUB versatility. For doing the Morse stuff that would imply some woodwork between the HBs....which I am not specifically into....

I am aiming at adding a Five-way-switch......is there enough space in the spot, where the three-way-switch is located in the original 2HB layout? I mean the backside of the PG and the body routing....

if you are like most people, you always have your tone control on 10. if so, you can re-wire that pot to be a coil splitter/blender. apply it to the bridge hummer to get a more tele style tone. or apply it to the neck pickup and get a a more srv style tone.
a very easy mod to do........and very easy to reverse if desired. i've done this for dozens of clients......and have yet to have someone bring it back for a reversal.

The 2 rotary switches in my Sublhouette are huge under the pickguard.

There's the space in the body with no extra routing.
This also has a 500k pot from my Axis, which is about twice as big as the 250k sub ones. As mentioned, a push-pull coil splitter can save you some space, and in addition, you can wire it differently to get what you want. I did the coil split on my Axis and the pp pot was small like the stock sub ones. I did eliminate the tone pot. If you're adding a pickup, you will need to route. There is not room for another pickup otherwise.

Since my guitar has not sold......and I've been using it to practice a lot (and liking it a lot), I'm starting to think that I need to modify it further. Yah, I think this sub is my long term project guitar. The plan in my head is to fill the top cavity with mahogany, put the pickup control on the top horn and perhaps do some pickup changes. Maybe HSS with a change to a solid color on the front of the guitar.....I'd try to leave the back trans rose.

My little workhorse has a Morse/Petrucci vibe going on, yet still retains a character of its own:

All my Sub pics are over here: Ernie Ball Forums - Sticky1973's Albums

My thread of joy is located here.

I have since added black Graph Tech saddles. Looks and feels great.

Hope this is of some interest to ya fella.

Not sure about the original placement, but I did have to route the body a little to fit the DiMarzio toggle switch.

I'll try and find my original PG and measure it up.

Duncan's P-Rails could add lots of versatilty to a SUB as well.

I've been contemplating a coil split switch for my SUB but how do they sound split?

As far as I understood it from a review I read, there should be loads of sonic options....one of these being a twangy single coil soundalike while split. The P-Rail can do pretty much of anything, they wrote, except for delivering high gain stuff....but I guess that's not what anyone would get the P-Rails for anyway...

Yeah I was considering the P-Rails a while ago. Now that you mention it again, I'm not sure why I didn't pursue that.
That would surely give a tonne of tonal variations.

The P-rails have peaked my interest. I know someone who said that if you put the rails to the outside you getter better tones from the rails. I would probably want a mini-toggle for HB/P90/Rail

I think, if you buy the set, there's some kind of multiple switching frame or something, which should support all the connectivity options...

Duncan does have pickup rings with switches that you can buy but that would be more for an LP style rather than scratchplate mounted.

I would have to get a second SUB as I like the stock pickups in my SUB too much

Iv'e been thinking of doing that to a sub. I like pickup options of the Y2D guitars. Maybe add a coil tap to the humbuckers also.
